Here's one I missed: Team GB Fencing Star is a Harringay Boy

In conversation yesterday, I discovered that it's common knowledge amongst some locals that one of the UK's best fencers lives on the Ladder. Somehow, it passed me by. So, if somewhat later than would have been ideal, meet our local Olympian.

Laurence Halstead was one the three strong Team GB men’s foil team who made it to the quarter-final stage.  Sadly the three north London fencers were knocked out of any medal chances, but only after a thrilling battle with 2012 gold medalists Italy. However, Halstead's contribution did not let the hood down as he turned in a 6-5 win over his Italian opponent.

Whilst training hard for the olympics last year, Laurence also had time to swap fencing for filming to star in a music video for his favourite band.

Brighton six-piece Two Spot Gobi's  video for their single Simon's Song saw Halsted ham it up as a frustrated fencer in full GB regalia, taking on team-mate Ed Jefferies, before a victorious finale on the piste in front of an adoring crowd.
