Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

can you recommend a plumber/electrician to repair my washing machine, please?    my kitchen floor is flooded and delivery people keep ringing my doorbell for other flats   this seems to be inevitable when you are in flat 1!

I second this - they're lovely - and reasonable

Try the tag I've added under your post.

oh dear   another intelligent practicql person    I travelled widely over the 40 years I was a BBC journalist and still do even tho I'm 85   and I organised numerous charity events including balls, brains trusts etc - even a music festival in Trafalgar Square   but I can't mend a fuse or a bicycle tyre or sew a button on without bleeding to death and, these days, I can't afford to pay people to do things for me - and I'm a lousy cook!                  please parents, teach your kids to be useful

thank you,Tris, I'll show your email to my daughter who learned incredible skills in her 5 years as a student                    best wishes to all who bother to answer these cries for help         SallyM

She's not necessarily being sarcastic or rude Tris. I read it and took it at face value. Sally,l were you radio or television ? I'm ex-BBC myself. It never leaves one, does it

no  it doesn't    I was both radio and tv- happiest on World Service but had to go back to tv as needed higher pay to support young teenagers

are you still working? I did the large sum of 3 broadcasts in 2013 but, so far this year, I was only invited on to a late night panel to discuss modes of travel    would love to do more    what about you?     are you happy with retirement or do you agree with me that journalists never retire?       SM

I've sent you a connection request so we can talk about SEME(N) and EIEIO without boring the rest of the Forum

I think Sally was being genuine and just a bit self depreciating. Hope you get sorted out Sally :-)

Tris* Ha ha got the machine up onto breeze blocks and then the filter cap would not unscrew so i forced it and it snapped and there was a coin inside. then i realised that there's other probs so i've totally given up on it. I've wasted so may hours on this damn machine so i am looking for another second hand machine. I've learned never to try to repair washing machines but thanks for your help (and everyone else) - Sally i hope you have much better luck than i have had.

Poor Sally. Definitely not sarcastic or rude! Good luck with your washing machine Sally.

thank you Gillian and other kind souls who, like me, were puzzled by Tris' 'sarcastic and rude' comment   there was absolutely no question of rejecting the advice    I simply had no idea how to make use of it so thought a light-hearted description of my DI Y capability would explain my uselessness    sorry if you were offended, but to be honest, Tris,I can't understand how you misinterpreted my email    SM
