Sadly, further changes have been made at Meadow Orchard Project in Crouch End by the current management committee that could have serious consequences for the future of the project and its accessibility as a community space.
Without proper membership oversight, a new constitution has been drafted, alongside sweeping changes to governance, policies, and procedures, all without proper consultation or approval from members. These actions undermine the previous governance arrangements that ensured accountability to members and volunteers. The committee appears to be acting beyond its powers (ultra vires), granting itself absolute control over the project and effectively closing to volunteers.
Meadow Orchard Project is an unincorporated association. As such, the elected committee does not have the authority to make unilateral constitutional changes or to disregard the existing governing document — the 2010 Constitution.
These changes have effectively removed members’ rights, with the committee awarding itself over arching, trustee-style powers and misrepresenting the project as a charity.
This undermines more than twelve years of community effort, volunteer contribution, and shared stewardship.
