An elderly person needs a volunteer to walk their cute little dog near Green Lanes, Clissold Park. Please consider helping if you live nearby, even if you can just do once a week.
First you would just need to apply to be a volunteer for the Cinnamon Trust, which is a charity which helps elderly people with pets. It's easy to apply, it's just some paperwork and once you're registered as a volunteer, you will be contacted by the charity to see if you can help where a need arises near you - you can say no if you can't help at the time. I'm a volunteer myself.
You can download a volunteer registration form www.cinnamon.org.uk/volunteers/
The more people who apply to be volunteers, the better - then if an elderly person needs help with a pet near you, there's a pool of potential people to help.
If you don't have time to volunteer, please consider becoming a member of the charity for £10 a year.

That's a great idea, I will download the form and complete asap.
Sounds like a really good idea. I am also going to look into this organisation. I can't have my own dog so this might be the next best thing and you get to help someone out too!
That's great to hear, thanks a lot, the more people in the neighbourhood (and nationally) that can sign up the better.
A pet is often an elderly person's main companion, and it's terrible if they have to worry if they need a bit of help because the last thing they want to do is have to give away their pet. For example, maybe their cat needs taking to the vet or they need someone to temporarily look after a pet while they are in hospital or they need dog walking help. You can be as specific as you want on the form on what type of things you might be able to do or not do or which type of animal, so if dog walking is your thing you can just put dog walking.
Don't worry, it's low maintenance. You will contacted by email when there is help needed in a location near you and if you can't help at the time, you can just say no, there's no pressure. So even if you feel you're too busy to volunteer for anything, it's still worth signing up.
If you know an elderly person who needs help with a pet, tell them to get in touch with the Cinnamon Trust. Plus we need many more volunteers across the whole country so please spread the word to encourage more volunteers.
Thanks for telling us about this charity Justine. I had no idea about their work but it does sound like they provide a really valuable service. As you say for some elderly people their pet might be their only companion and it would be terrible if they have to worry about them if they have health issues they have to deal with.
Hi there;
Justine, have you found a dog walker for this individual. If you could let me know that would be great. I have someone who may be interested.
Cheers,
James
Hi James. Thanks a lot for replying. It would be great if your friend could complete a volunteer form. Once it has been processed, they will be contacted by the Cinnamon Trust if this dog still needs help or when another pet locally needs help.
The Cinnamon Trust will be delighted to receive lots of volunteer forms in our neighbourhood and nationally. Completing a volunteer form means that once registered as a volunteer, you will be contacted in due course if an elderly person's pet needs help in your road or a road near you. There is no commitment to worry about, if you can't help at the time, then just say no and they will ask another volunteer.
If you are registered as a volunteer, you will receive a newsletter full of heartwarming stories and photos of elderly people and their pets, helped by the Cinnamon Trust volunteers.
This is great. Thanks Justine. I will print the form off now. Cheers, James
Just an update on this little dog - more help is needed for dog walking. A volunteer is walking the dog at the weekend, but more cinnamon trust volunteers are needed for walking him during the week. So please apply to the cinnamon trust if you can help, even if it's once a week.
