I realise that, at this time of year, participating in a psychology study is likely to come at the bottom of a very long list of priorities...
...however, on the off chance that anyone does have 5 minutes to spare to help me meet my fast-approaching deadline, you'd have my eternal gratitude.
In case you might be able to help, there are some more details below. Although the information's long, the experiment's very short: all's that's involved is sending me a 1-line email.
Thank you!
Josephine
The ultimatum game (UG) is a bargaining interaction.
It involves two players -- a proposer (P) and a responder (R) -- and one hypothetical sum of money.
The players have the chance to win shares of the hypothetical money, if they can agree to divide it.
P suggests a split and R decides whether to accept it.
If R accepts, then both players win; if R rejects the split, then neither player receives anything. The two possible outcomes are win-win and lose-lose.
What does participation involve?
You will be randomly assigned a role (proposer or responder).
If you're a proposer, I will send you an email offering you a hypothetical sum of money. All you need to do is decide on what proportion of this money to offer to your partner; then, when you've decided, let me know, and I'll pass on your offer to a respondent. When I receive a reply, I'll tell you whether your offer has been accepted or rejected.
If you're an respondent, I will send you an email informing you of the share of the hypothetical money that is on offer. All you need to do is decide whether to accept or reject the offer; let me know your decision, and I'll pass on your response to the proposer.
PLEASE NOTE:
Anonymity and confidentiality will be preserved throughout (I will mediate all emails, so you will never need to be directly in touch with your partner in the game.)
There are no right or wrong answers.
Ps are free to offer Rs any share of the money that they wish to (0%-100%).
Rs are free to accept or reject any offer.
Participation is strictly voluntary.
A reply to this email will be taken as your consent to participate, and also as your consent for me to use your anonymised proposals or responses.
You may withdraw at any time. If you have any questions about the study, you can contact me at any point during or after the exercise.
After the exercise has been completed, I will email you with more detailed information about the focus of the study; and there will be an opportunity address any issues that might have arisen.
