Come along to hear from Cllr Gio Iozzi Cabinet Member for Climate Action and Transport.
This is a great opportunity to talk about the problems of traffic, restaurant air pollution and any other issues. As well as hearing what the council has planned.
Please come along - it is sad to say that unless we push, the council take no action. It's time to say we want this to be a happier and healthier place to live!

Sadly I was unable to attend the meeting, but my understanding from a call with Ian is that very little was said beyond 'We're looking at it ... so on and so forth'. Was that about the size of it?
Yup, that's about the size of it Hugh. I did get a sense of frustration and a desire for bold action. Marc (one of our local councillors) was very direct in saying he wanted to end through traffic on the Ladder.
I do feel for them - coming in to a council which hasn't seen any change for about 40 years - it's going to take time. I do also feel that they get that tinkering at the edges isn't going to be acceptable to residents.
So lets see. But action is the only thing that matters. And we haven't seen any yet.
… action is the only thing that matters.
Yes, and the intense institutional inertia is likely to continue for a while.
The Cabinet Member who spoke at the meeting obviously has to work with "officers".
However council employees* have operated—literally for decades—inside a symbiotic relationship with a Labour Group, but in practice, this hasn't always worked in the public interest. After seeing the degree of chronic sclerosis and the difficulty of achieving results (a) the best council employees tended to leave while (b) some members of the local Labour Cabinet left for Parliament, or tried to leave for Parliament.
Residents were not always well served.
* On this webpage, the Council correctly puts "Council employees" before the (bracketed) "officers". Not all employees are "officers" and not all offcial officers deserve the respect implied.
