Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

In the discussions re the banner, it was suggested that Paul Simon was not a fit and proper company to advertise on the bridge, given that their estate agent boards were illegally left up for weeks, even months, after they should have  been taken down, thereby contributing to the visual pollution from which we all suffer. The Council's reply was that Paul Simon was a reformed character following the change in the franchise holder and was now a respected and cooperative member of the community.

The Council regulations on estate agents' advertising say that boards must indicate that  a sale or let " has been agreed " or is  " subject to contract " and the advertisement must be removed within fourteen days after completion of a sale or the grant of tenancy.

I did a spot check and took a few photographs. The latter show that the following " SOLD " or " LET " boards were in place on 28th June 2011 and are still there today, 25th July, two weeks after they should have been taken down:

5 Alroy  Rd  ( this board has been there for years )

30 Wightman Rd

75 Lausanne Rd

103 Hampden Rd

20 Hampden Rd

None of the Paul Simon boards carry the required agreed / subject to contract wording.

I see no signs of improvement.

John. I do understand which is why I felt is necessary to make clear the distinction between us. However, now that the set up has been explained, I wouldn't expect you to 'tar us with the same brush'.

The contact details for Paul Simon lettings can be found by anyone on Google. They are now based at Magic House on Green Lanes. I have discussed this with them and it is a point we do not see eye to eye on.

Thanks Reuben. They're in my favourites now :-)
So, the council is saying that P Simon Lettings can advertise on the bridge despite their illegal adverts elsewhere because the totally unrelated P Simon Sales are behaving well. Can you perhaps point out the difference to Haringey as well Ruben and ask that they act to protect your good name by enforcing the removal of the signs as they are not listening to me.

Paul Simon is Paul Simon, lettings or sales. The general public won't know or care about the difference, suggest you sort it out. If you prove yourselves and behave for a while we might be inclined to believe you. Paul Simon is not exactly a favourite around here.

As it stands today, when we sell this place it will not be with Paul Simon.

Hi Ruben,

I understand PS Sales have done some very decent things for the local community of of late, much of which you have kept under your hats, I want to congratulate you in doing so. One act in particular has been brought to my attentions and I am truly proud of you for doing it. I admire your modesty. I would happily one day buy or sell a house through PS Sales. However, I can't at the mo as I am boycotting all the business that advertise on the he bridge.

But Takao (it takes me almost a full minute to write her name down) kagejin  raises a very good point.  May I go further and suggest you be more public in your condemnation of PS lettings and also perhaps speak to them about clearing their junk, including the beams they drill the boards into, from the side of Harringays buildings.

Sadly you have bought into a poisoned chalice. I am convinced you are honest and decent, as much as estate agents can be ;), and not the cowboys whose name you have the misfortune of sharing.

Perhaps you could consider casting your modesty aside and brag about the good you are doing whilst being more public in you condemnation of PS lettings and the legacy they like to leave the area. help the council enforce the removal of the illegal and downright dangerous old boards and beams around the area. Speak to PS Letting and let them know that their attitude sucks and they need to change their ways. Perhaps consider legal moves as their behaviour could damage your business.

Sadly  the PS of old (sales, lettings and corporate) were and still are scumbags in the eyes of many many local people.

I worry your modesty  will forever mean you are tarred with the same brush and losing the support from a significant group of locals that you so clearly deserve.
