Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hello everyone!

Would anyone else be interested in organising a Harringay jumble trail again this year? I have loads of stuff to sell, as I may be leaving London at the end of September!

I have been having a sort out of all my thinner me clothing today, so will have loads to sell, as well as lots of household items and some plants. I don't have time to organise the event myself but will definitely do a stall if someone else organises it and I'm happy to help with spreading the word on social media. I think a Saturday is the best day to do it, Probably mid September would be a good time once everyone is back from holidays.
Cool! I will definitely look into organising it. Any other people interested?

I think it would be better if organised as a market.  It was too spread out last time.

The thing about Jumble Trail is that it's meant to be in people's gardens as a way of exploring the community and meeting your neighbours, and if enough people get on board it really works, we did the Clapton one last year at a friend's place and it was a really good turnout.

Once you turn it into a market it stops being a Jumble Trail because of licensing, public liability etc. And then becomes a commercial enterprise where you need lots of paperwork and people have to pay tax on their earnings. Some community centres do offer spaces as part of Jumble Trail which is great for those who don't have their own outside space, but only as part of the bigger Jumble Trail event.

It would be great if more people could get on board with Jumble Trail this time and make it a truly great community event. All you have to do is register on the website and pay the nominal fee (once the organiser has set up the event on the website) then you set out your stall on the day in your garden or hallway and sell your stuff, meet your neighbours and have a fun day without having to schlep everything out to a venue, sort out insurance / paperwork etc and have the added stress of traffic and parking etc.

For those not holding stalls, following the Trail is meant to be part of the fun, although I agree that if there aren't enough stalls in one area and everything is too thinly spread out it doesn't really work so well. The Clapton one is the biggest in the country but very well supported so you can just go to clusters of stalls rather than the whole event if you don't want to do it all.

We have done about 4 now (harringay Ladder, Finsbury Park, Stroud Green, Clapton) and had so much fun, I think the problem with previous years has been calling it Harringay Ladder Jumble Trail rather than just Harringay - let's make it more inclusive and include the wider area, also timing I seem to remember one in July when a lot of people are away or getting ready for holidays. I also don't think the previous ones were as well publicised as they could have been other than on Social Media I mean, lots of people didn't know about the event as they don't use Facebook or twitter, but would have done stalls had they known about it. Some streets had flyers but I think these were just the streets where people had already registered for stalls and flyered their own streets.
Yeah I like the idea of going to different people's houses I think. I would love to organise one for august.
I am definitely interested. My friends on Cavendish Rd would also be interested. I did really well at the jumble trail last year.

Hello everybody, so do you think August or September would be better for this? Saturday/Sunday? I am happy to go about organising it.  Just let me know what timing you think is best.  It would have to be mid-September latest I think though.  It's a little topsy turvy for me at the moment, not knowing for definitely if I will be staying in London after the end of Sep! If we do August, I was thinking the first weekend of August (Aug 5th/6th), as I may be doing a CELTA course for the remainder of August.  If Sep, I was thinking Sep 16th/17th. I would probably go for the August weekend myself.

Hi yes i would be interested in September ! (mattison rd)

Marion

OK great. I will look into setting it up for September!

HI Lauren - I'd be interested if you organised a JT - Aug or Sept works as this point in time.

I think it's better if it's a definite area like the Ladder. To call it a Haringey jumble trail is too vague and would be too big. If those interested can drum up other people in their street to join it could be a great day. I would like to have a date. End of Sept. Would be good.if we set a date now it will give us a target to aim for.
Hey! Is this going ahead? I would be interested in late August?
