Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Does anyone know where I might find info about which roads are going to be closed and how the traffic is to be redirected on the day of the Festival? All I can find is that Green Lanes is to be closed all day between Burgoyne and the Salisbury.

I'm surprised that no-one thought to leaflet those living on the affected streets...

Thee person to ask is Dasos Maliotis, Harringay & St Ann's wards' Neighbourhood Officer on 0208 489 4936 / 079 6733 6231 / Dasos.Maliotis@haringey.gov.uk
Thanks Hugh.
I think I heard that Warham will be shut and Seymour will be open? Is that right? Could you post any info once you find out?
Green Lanes will be closed between Burgoyne and Salisbury Roads I understand. I have a nasty feeling that traffic could be redirected down St Ann's and up Salisbury and Warham roads but probably up Seymour would be more practical. I will be on walks in inner London as part of the Open London Day on that day and so as a resident of Salisbury Road will not notice what further mess-ups the area will be subjected to. I eat in the restaurants in Green Lanes with friends every week, my son-in-law is a Turkish chef, so don't consider the festival a big deal.
Great - tons of traffic for us then. Glad I'm away that week-end.
This is the response I've had from Dasos Maliotis:

Thank you for your e mail – I can confirm that there will be a Festival in Green Lanes on Sunday 20 September and that Green Lanes from the railway bridge up to Salisbury Road will be closed to all traffic. Discussions with representatives of local organisations such as the Ladder Community Safety Partnership, which represent a number of the ladder roads including Burgoyne Road, together with a number of other Residents Associations and local groups, who have been fully involved in the arrangements for the festival and have welcomed and fully supported this initiative.

The proposal is that from Umfreville Road up to and including Pemberton Road will not have access into or from Green Lanes from 7 am to 7 pm on the Sunday and the one way operation in these roads will be suspended on the day to allow access. Parking bays will also be suspended at the Green Lanes end (mostly pay and display) to allow vehicles to turn around and exit by way of Wightman Road . Similar arrangements are also being considered for the Garden Roads. All the traffic management signs will be suspended on the day and appropriate notices posted in the area. A stage will also be erected at the junction of Burgoyne Road and Green Lanes (facing Green Lanes).

I do apologise for the delay in informing local residents regarding the details around the festival. I am sure you will appreciate that this is quite a major task to put on this festival and we do need to ensure that all arrangements have been fully considered before the final decisions are taken.

The details are now just being finalised with the Highways Section of the Council, Traffic for London , the Metropolitan Police and emergency services. Once the details have been finalised a letter from the Council, hopefully within the next week or so, explaining these arrangements will be delivered to all residents in affected streets and posted on the Council web site.

I hope that this information has been helpful and if in the meantime, you should need any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me or the team.
Please don't interpret this as my having a go at Dasos because that is not the intention, indeed he brings a refreshing air of competancy to proceedings at the Council, however, I can't disregard:

".......together with a number of other Residents Associations and local groups, who have been fully involved in the arrangements for the festival and have welcomed and fully supported this initiative."

Wightman Road N4 Residents' Association (WRN4RA) raised objection to the arrangements for traffic for Sept. 20th on the first occasion that the information was available to us - following a chance meeting with a Festival Committee member. The first meeting to which WRN4RA was invited was in May. At that meeting I raised the issue of consultation about traffic and was told by the Chair of the organising committee that she didn't know WRN4RA existed - even though council officers have attended past meetings. We were presented with an unconsulted decision already made by a self appointed committee acting as an off-shoot of the Green Lanes Strategy Group. As far as I am aware the consultation on traffic matters outside the group has been with Council Traffic Officers, TfL, Police and Emergency Services.

The real work and energy which will make the Festival happen comes from the traders on Green Lanes and this is reflected in the Festival name. For the Festival to legitimately warrant the backing received from the Council it must be a true Community event which is why it is being presented as having been welcomed and supported by all groups concerned. It is important that the Community are offered and take the opportunity to be "fully involved" rather than invited at the last minute to lend an air of legitimacy to the process.
