Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

(Probably) great news from the Green Lanes Strategy Group this evening.

1. The concept of a Harringay Festival, involving the closure of Green Lanes has been given approval in principle (the devil's always in the detail, so we're not there yet). Big up the charming Shefik Mehmet from Harringay Traders' Association for that one. He's been pursuing the idea for three years. And our own Liz was mentioned in dispatches by Councillor Canver as also being an advocate.

2. The Harringay Charter got the green light. I think this is in principle + a bit more. The first phase will be a very inclusive consultation with the locals by the locals to get some sense of what shape the charter should take.

So good news, I hope. I'll write more when I get a free moment.

brilliant.well done
All I can do is second all the praise and thanks on this one. I know it's been a long and muddy road to get to this point, but it's uplifting to know both ideas are being given serious consideration.

I thought the Car Free day on Wood Green High Rd was a great success. I can imagine the same party/festival atmosphere going down a storm on Green Lanes. Definitely a great way to get everyone from different cultures and backgrounds in the area together for a day - can't wait!
I think this is the event that if it comes off me and Matt agreed to help run a HoL stall??? I think it will be great fun!! I'm sure others may want to get involved? When is this 'probably' going to happen Hugh?
I refer to two things in my post Ruth. Are you asking about one or both?
The festival
Probably the summer.
Brilliant news, well done all. Look forward to hearing more.
brilliant - I used to live in Church St Stoke Newington and the festival was great! Well done.
