I keep meaning to go in! The interior looks surprisingly light and attractive from the photo. When is it open for people to look around?

It's open every Sunday morning. 10 am onwards.

Or if you're really scared of being prayed at, come to the Messiah Saturday 23rd Nov 7pm

Ha hAAAAA ! !  good one John

It is! Have you seen this wee video?

Hi Pipplypig - I'm the organist; we're looking at ways to let people have a look around (in addition to services, of course) - watch this space (anything that happens will be posted on here).

The Best Modern Churches Awards website is now showing the judges' comments about the shortlisted churches.  This is what they had to say about St. Paul's, Harringay: "A strong but simple external form owing a debt to Aldo Rossi, nicely articulated and a cool prayerful interior - one of the best more recent churches."

I would be interested to know the meaning of the altar piece, and why it has been created in the shape it has.

The three white verticals and the white horizontal at the top represent the three crosses - Jesus and 2 thieves, one on  either side - perhaps standing on the " green hill far away " The semi-circular bit at the bottom is Golgotha - the place of skulls. It's been said that if you turn the reredos upside down it is in the form of a traditional church window but, personally, I don't see the point of that. I can't remember what the Greek writing at the very top says.

It's a bit reminiscent of the Dali painting -

It certainly is reminiscent. Thanks for that observation, Mr D.
