Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Harringay being Eaten by Americans!
Walking through Finsbury Park earlier, I saw a couple of workmen finishing off a job on the western bank of the New River in the park. Chatting to them, I learned that they'd been building up the bank and boarding in it. Apparently the American Crayfish which have invaded the river have been eating into the underside of the bank and leaving it in danger of collapse. The repair job just completed by Thames Water should last 20 years, I was told.

We saw a rather large fish today, about halfway between Woodberry down and the pump house.

This reminded me of an outing from South Harringay Primary School when, armed with pencil and paper, we trooped along the New River to jot down any wildlife we saw. Spotting a circle of disturbance in the water, I asked teacher what it might be. Without further explanation she replied it was an eddy. On my list I wrote 'one eddy' - met on marking by a question-mark. Now I am wondering if it might have been something more exotic.
