Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Personally I find mini roundabouts confusing enough as it is. Nice one Haringey!

I think it was John McMullan who used the phrase "red gang, yellow gang" to describe the current dismally decayed state of public debate in Haringey. And the way that most of the gang members don't have the faintest idea how they are part of this decline.

About the signage on the mini-roundabout, I suppose it's no surprise when the servants  of the Montagues and Capulets waste time throwing taunts and biting their thumbs at each other.

But what a shame they can't give a few seconds thought to making practical suggestions which might lead to improvement. Such as?

Well, the council's staff and its contractors have moved quickly to fix the mistake. (Good). So what about inquiring what they're changing to get things right the first time. (Better.)

A thought which occurred to me was about the crossover point - i assume there is one - when someone inspected the contractors' work and approved/okayed it?  ("Signed it off" seems to be the unhelpful current vague term.)

A word of caution, these questions may seem to be about people and procedures. Neither are irrelevant. But I suspect improvement will need a refocus on organisational culture, on learning and on systems.

But such questions - if they are asked - will probably have to wait. At least until after the Borough elections and a bit later. When the victorious gang members - new councillors, the not-so-new, the old, and those in persistent vegetative state - emerge from the party echo chambers where they've been shouting agreement with one another.

(Tottenham Hale ward councillor)

The Lib Dems are well known for doing things in a roundabout way and when they get confused for going in total reverse. Student fees come to mind.

Presumably we have to give priority to the left ?

Of course we do - it's Haringey
