Great bit of Guerilla gardening in those tree pits. We planted up our local horse trough with wild flowers,and our tree pits with Daffs. really cheers up the street.. Why not a Haringey Guerilla Garden award?

The point of covering the tree pits with green is that it mostly hinders dogs from doing their business. Some dogs are trained to do their worst in greenery, but most prefer bare ground. Therefore trees pits are ideal places.
