Hello HoLiners
I feel very fortunate to have started a new post at Age UK working with the Forum of Older People as Development Officer. The Forum has been in existence for almost 10 years and has done much good work across the Borough, putting across the views of older people from diverse backgrounds and circumstances, campaiging on many issues and raising awareness of the needs and potential of older people. They organise many events and offer a means of communication and support for older people such as with their newsletter, Older and Bolder Voices. As with many publicly-funded organisations, the Forum is now is a transitional period as it moves away from Council funding. We have some funding from them until the end of March next year to assist with this. My post is to help in this transition to a more independent and self-funding body and I have another 5 months to help bring this about. The Forum has some very skilled and experienced older people who work ceaselessly on a voluntary basis to keep the work of the Forum going. I am committed to help make sure the Forum has a future- not only for its 850- odd individual members and associated groups such as sheltered housing. but for those not yet aware of its existence and work. It is needed even more in today's changed circumstances. I shall be providing through HoL regular updates but also appeals for help (time, money, gifts etc. ) once we have a programme of fund-raising events organised. We are also keen to work with local traders and businesses perhaps in terms of some sponsorship links and events, for example.
Please do get in touch if you have any questions or suggestions plus if you would like to help out in some way or to be linked to us. Age is no limit- we are keen to have some intergenerational activities going on.
