My husband, who is a journalist, was recently sent this information and I thought it might interest HOL readers. The T Magazine is the New York Times mag.
"As part of T Magazine’s T25 series, “The 25 Essential Dishes to Eat in London” gathers six of London's top chefs to determine the most delicious and memorable plates in the British capital. We chose panelists who represent a mix of different cultures, cuisines and career stages, all deeply immersed in London's culinary world: chefs Adejoké Bakare, Jeremy Lee, James Lowe, Max Rocha and Cynthia Shanmugalingam, and baker Claire Ptak.
Each panelist submitted a list of 10 nominated dishes in advance, creating a longlist of 60 options to whittle down. The final 25 dishes span London's culinary spectrum, from Michelin-starred institutions like St. John and The River Café, to neighborhood gems across the city's diverse areas."
And to our surprise and delight who should feature but Green Lanes stalwart Umut 2000.
The whole piece is behind a paywall but here is a reprise of what was said.
Ocakbasi, simple Turkish restaurants devoted to grilled meats, can now be found all over the city, but Umut 2000, which has locations in Dalston and Harringay (now under separate ownership) is a favorite among the food-obsessed, known for its exceptional lamb ribs and unusually fresh ezme. The latter, a traditional chopped salad, is an afterthought at many other ocakbasi, showing up as a mushy, overworked paste sitting behind a plastic display. At Umut, the dish is made to order, a mix of tomatoes, parsley, onion, red pepper flakes, sumac, and chile, with a dressing of olive oil, salt and pomegranate molasses. — J.H."
Expect an influx of New Yorkers!
