Great response from Sainsbury's to cycle theft problem
A few weeks back, we had the lastest in a series of posts about theft / damage of bicycles when parked in Sainsbury's car park. As a result I investigated a little then contacted Sainsbury's (locally, via Twitter, then locally again) and now less than a week later we seem to have a solution.

As promised an update on Friday.
CCTV will be put into place covering the cycle park and disabled bays covering all of that part of the car park. We have also looked at extra lighting in this area as well, especially around the canopy areas of the building for extra safety and security.
It is anticipated that this will take 4-6 weeks to complete, I will personally get an update every week to see where we are, and will update you accordingly.

I've just been to Sainsbury's to do some shopping and had the opportunity to ask a few questions to a couple of people who are in a position to share useful information on this. (I'm being vague so as not to get them in trouble). Here's what I learned:
1. Apparently there is an epidemic of cycle theft and theft from cycles throughout the Arena shopping area. A bike is stolen every day, I was told.
2. It seems that the culprits are known but not yet identified. They were described to me as "a couple of Europeans". I was told that they were almost caught recently. A £900 bike was saved but the thieves got away.
3. Apparently there is just one CCTV camera to cover the whole of Sainsbury's car park. My interlocutor said that they were shocked at this when they first started work at the Harringay branch, given their previous experience at stores with smaller car parks where there were three or four CCTV cameras.

Thanks for the update Hugh. It is reasonable that installing further CCTV cameras will take time.
If the shop or property owners were serious about halting this, they could agree or arrange for a detective with a radio in a car in a position to monitor discretely newly parked bicycles.
If its an epidemic, they mightn't have long to wait, especially if, as it sounds, there is a description of the culprits.
