Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Just tried out a new Turkish restaurant which opened a couple of weeks ago around the corner from us. It's called UMUT OCAKBASI and is on the right just past Woodlands Park Road if you going towards Downhills Park.

They have the usual open barbecue and the menu seemed pretty standard but the quality of the food and the service should get Antiplier worried...

Loads of freebies - houmous, tsassiki, 3 different salads and a fabulous baked onion dish. The meat was great too.

Very kiddy-friendly - the waitress offered to sit with my son and explain the menu to him and then offered both kids smaller cutlery. And at the end, I got a complementary cup of tea, which always goes down well.

Give it a try while they're still ou to impress!

As Jason says, it's the same people behind both with some of our old staff popping-up down in N1. The Upper Street restaurant is swankier, doesn't have a BYO policy and there aren't the freebies that you get on Green Lanes. And when we went, it was flat breads rather than the pillowy stuff you get on GL. It's also a bit pricier, which I guess it would need to be given the location. I much prefer the one on GL.

I also agree that it's been a bit consistent of late - excellent one week, okay the next, excellent again and then a bit mediocre - definitely seems to be something going on.

Ooh...interesting!\

IIRC, that particular shop has played host to at least two other mezze-based restaurants (Pomegranate and a Greek one whose name I've forgotten) in the past couple of years so I'll be impressed if they can buck the trend.
