Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I took my car in to Audi Whetstone for a service recently and, since they no longer take card payments on the phone, I paid online. I've just found out that I was charged £11.00 for that 'service'.

Needless to say I was pretty gobsmacké. Audi assured me that I couldn't have made the payment without accepting the charge. For my part I'm pretty damn sure I would never have accepted an £11.00 charge for using a credit card (why that's almost worse that short stay parking charges at Stanstead).

To give them credit, they're refunding the charge (but only after I asked for an online walk through of where the charges are notified during the payment process).

Cor blimey....I mean, would you ever.

This has been in the news quite a lot lately http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/bargains-and-rip-offs/article.html?in_... as many companies seek to go well beyond recovering costs with such surcharges. I am pleased to report that TfL charged me only the face value £60 for my pcn picked up when dropping off my daughter at King's Cross on a Sunday a few weeks ago.
There are tube and train services from here to King's Cross. Surely driving is a nightmare.
Tube or train  would be my 2nd preference after Shanks's pony, however, the daughter in question had cunningly used vacuum pack bags to shrink clothes, cushions and other stuff so that her two suitcases weighed almost more than it was possible to pick up, certainly more than would be comfortable to lift onto a bus. Hence the car. Well worth every unsurcharged penny.
Oh so she'd have been fine at the other end all by herself. Cool.
Wheels on the cases would get her to a taxi rank. A taxi in Leeds costs about the same as a bus here. Any way she is young and fit and has too many clothes. We do seem to have drifted off Hugh's point. He should delete this drivel. His point about megacorp abusing the power of their behind the scenes payment processing is note worthy
Oh, give over Mr Mcmullan!

Surely it should be cheaper to pay on line because of the lack of paper processing ? Isn't that why there is usually a discount for paying by direct debit ?

Next time, send them a cheque written on the side of a cow.

For those less than happy with paying £12 to use a credit card or £6 for a bank card to pay for those bargain (hah!) flights from Easyjet, you can get an Electron card from Halifax, it's a basic bank account, you dont need to use it except to top it up  There's a 7-10 day delay for new a/cs at the mo, as I just found to my cost.

Maybe Ryanair too though bargepoles are too short for me to go near their site to find out.
