Glyphosate in Haringey
I've been campaigning against Roundup (glyphosate) spraying in Haringey, for about 5 years.
Frequency has been reduced on Ferry Lane Estate, but still not good enough! It should be banned borough-wide. The thing that baffles me is, central Government knows the harm it causes, but keeps renewing the license. Monsanto, the manufacturer, is an American billionaire company. They carry a lot of clout, and their tentacles have infiltrates UK politics.

Glyphosate is an extremely toxic main ingredient of Roundup weed killer. It is a residual killer, which means the chemical remains in the soil long after spraying and continues to leak into ecosystems. Wildlife that forage on plants that have been sprayed, or otherwise come into direct contact with it, stand the high risk of becoming poisoned. Butterflies; bees; moths and all essential pollinators can easily become poisoned. Besides direct poisoning by contact, this dreadful chemical eradicates natural habitat. Even more, besides the well documented damage it causes wildlife, it's reputed as being highly dangerous to humans too - especially when injested through the food we eat. Glyphosate (Roundup), is the spray of choice for farmers, who are seemingly oblivious to the harm they are causing. It's sprayed on crops, (bread; cereals). Foraging animals in fields, take the poison directly into their tummies. We should all be very worried about Glyphosate (Roundup), it'S in our bodies too!!!! Human urine has been tested and it show's we have the chemical in us. Apart from getting a complete ban on the use of Roundup, nationwide, we should ALL eat Organic. You can choose to eat organic if you wish...not everyone can afford that luxury

For the "just about managing" it is...compare their prices to any one of the Green Lanes greengrocers....also can you outline any alternatives to glysophate? I'm assuming that you appreciate that the Ferry Lane Estate don't want to be overrun with weeds....

In terms of being a "residual killer", I have found that it is. Presumably you're referring to Monsanto's own spiel, and those who financially benefit from being onside. There's plenty of evidence out their, by independent scientists, that tells us the truth - it's up to us to take it, or ignore it.

Many thanks for taking the trouble to post this information, Jeanette. Plainly, people should be alerted to potential risks about their and others' health.
Plainly too, it's right that people may want to challenge your view. However, a few minutes internet search would show that there's a body of evidence and scientific opinion which supports your view. Though this is a matter of contention and not entirely accepted by the scientific community.
I know the Guardian has covered this issue - it seems, in a fairly measured and balanced way. This article in June 2016 is the last one I read. -
