Glyphosate in Haringey
Frequency has been reduced on Ferry Lane Estate, but still not good enough! It should be banned borough-wide. The thing that baffles me is, central Government knows the harm it causes, but keeps renewing the license. Monsanto, the manufacturer, is an American billionaire company. They carry a lot of clout, and their tentacles have infiltrates UK politics.

You have great diplomacy skills. A little kindness goes a long way, doesn't it. :)
Dr. Stephanie Seneff, PhD, (Doctor in Biophysics), is an authority on the subject.
Of course, as Monsanto, the producer of Roundup, is a North American giant, it follows that most information on Roundup has been covered in the States.
Roundup is a HUGE concern to me, simply because it is so liberally used - in fields; parks; housing estates; roadside verges, etc. Our central and local Governments are seemingly oblivious to the full impact of glyphosate, and, from what I've personally found, since I began writing to Haringey, very little heed is given to independent scientific papers on Roundup (glyphosate).
Glyphosate has been detected in the urine of a number of MEPs, during tests, from a number of European countries. This, I find more than a little worrying. I've seen this chemical (or compound), referred to as, the secret killer. With mental; liver; intestinal; heart; reproductive and other educated deep concerns from the scientific community, I only pray that authorities will take note and look for an alternative herbicide, as a matter of high importantance. Simple 'white vinegar and washing up liquid', is an effective weed killer. -

But I wasn't trying to be diplomatic or kind. I saw what you emailed to Zena as a councillor. And had read some of the Guardian pieces. So I'm aware that there are evidence-based concerns; but also strong arguments in contention.
Of course there's a problem with awaiting the next, larger, more thorough - etc etc - study before taking any action. If the stuff is as damaging as you and many scientists fear, the damage to people, plants and animals has been done.So it seems to me that better-safe-than-sorry is not a bad approach. And at minimum trying to reduce the use and find substitutes.
I think back to the damage caused by the use of lead in petrol and how long that took to phase out. And now the problem of air pollution and the long term serious damage - especially to very young children. -

Monsanto, the producer of Roundup, hasn't only recently hit the spotlight. It has an interesting manufacturing track record.
POLYSTYRENE
----------------------
A synthetic polymer. Polystyrene production became a focus of Monsanto in 1941. Polystyrene is non-biodegradable and is responsible for the most hazardous waste worldwide. Chronic exposure to it has also been tied to depression, headaches, fatigue, and weakness.
DDT

DDT (dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane) was a commonly used pesticide designed to combat malaria-transmitting mosquitoes. Monsanto was one of the first manufacturers of the insecticide that would later fall under heavy scrutiny.
DIOXINS

Dioxins are a group of chemically-related compounds that some see as amongst the most toxic chemicals known to science. Monsanto became involved in 1945 when they began promoting the use of chemical pesticides in agriculture. They are most notably bad for their ability to accumulate in the food chain.
AGENT ORANGE

A herbicide/defoliant primarily used as a form of chemical warfare during the Vietnam War. Monsanto was one of the two major manufacturers of it. It is said to be responsible for over 400,000 deaths and 500,000 birth defects with over a million suffering from health problems of some kind.

So, OK you've seen that but you're going to ignore it and divert the discussion by introducing some other irrelevant " facts ".
It's not glyphosate you're campaigning against but big-business Monsanto.

Try this please. Do a search on "Glyphosate the new bogeyman" the title of the article you cite in "Science Based Medicine" written by Dr Steven Novella. Notice page after page of citations? Is this the "glaring and all too familiar" signs of a conspiracy theory? Should we "smell a rat?"I'd suggest it's more likely to be the seductive scent of churnalism. Online material repeated and re-re-circulated to fill-up websites and blogs. Possibly even machine-generated?
Which may tell us little or nothing about Dr Novella's science. Or indeed about Dr Seneff's science either.
Scepticism both personal and scientific is sensible when far-reaching claims are being made. But have the scientists from different EU countries really been arguing about a bogeyman? -

Hi folks, since posting this original message, re Monsanto's 'Rounup (glyphosate), I've received some interesting messages, though some have also been quite hostile to the idea that there's a chemical in our food, reaching our bodies, which is harmful. I expected that response. The last such message, was to accuse me of having nothing against Glyphosate, but instead, Monsanto, as, 'big business'. That was the last ridiculous straw. Absolutely nothing could be further from the truth. As slushy and cliche as it may sound, I actually do care for my fellow man, who are unsuspectingly ingesting this harmful chemical. As I, (and I should imagine most people), don't believe in banging my head against a brick wall, I'll end here, as each is entitled to his or her opinion and, I have no inclination towards having a slanging match. One last thing though ... 'organic is safest'!
