Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This male ginger cat often visits our garden but over the last few weeks he has been coming regularly in the evenings and pushes his way in to eat our cat's food. He is obviously extremely hungry. His coat is is great condition and he looks healthy, though he seems very unsettled and not his usual confident self. He wears a red collar which I think is new, it had a bell but it has broken in half.

We are happy to feed him (haven't got much choice while we have the back door open in the evenings) though our cat isn't particularly happy about it and I want to make sure he isn't missed by anybody. We live at the top of Nelson Road.

He might just prefer your kitty's grub! OTOH he might be lost or abandoned - Is he underweight?

He looks like one that I see frequently on Quernmore Rd. Has he got a scar on the left side of his face near his ear?

It's good of you to try to find out if this cat has an owner or is lost or stray. If no response to your post and if your neighbours don't know and those with gardens backing on to yours don't know, then it's worth getting the cat scanned to see if it's microchipped. Is he neutered?

You could also attach a note to his collar asking his people to ring you.

Hi thanks for replies. He looks quite young but I'd guess he's 4 or 5 as he's been around for a few years. I haven't seen any scars on him. He looks generally very clean and healthy and I'd be surprised if he's been abandoned as he always looks like well looked after, and he is neutered. Doesn't look underweight but is quite a slender cat.  My gut reaction is that he's been spooked out of his home by something. He seems twitchy and very unsettled and is normally super confident.

Putting a note on his collar is a good idea, and I have thought about taking him to be scanned. Getting him in a basket could be interesting, he's quite lively and growls when I pick him up - which is unusual (not like he's in pain but more like 'leave me alone'). Also he tends to visit in the evening when vet is closed which makes it difficult. If he seems to get worse then I will definitely find a way to do this. I will do my best for him.

That's great that he looks well looked after and is neutered. It's a good tip of Lauren's to put a note on his collar as that can produce a speedy answer.

Hi - a quick update and some good news. During another visit yesterday complete with growling and more apparently starving behaviour, I managed to get a note on to his collar (folded up some paper small and wrapped it with sellotape!) with my phone number on it. His owner just called me! She said they went away recently and someone was feeding him but he tends to go off more when they are away - the timing fits exactly. Their garden backs on to ours a few doors down the hill, she said he is always eating at neighbours. She was very grateful for me caring about him, we had a long chat and laughed about it, he clearly is quite a character.

So it just goes to show - cats are funny things and it's worth not making any assumptions if you find one that is apparently 'lost'. Thanks for the idea Lauren it worked a treat

That's great to hear.

Great news!

This looks just like our cat that we have been searching for for a couple of weeks now - we live on Hornsey Park Road - came across this by accident! Is he still coming around? here he is in our kitchen - do you have the number of the person who called you?

hi Tony very sorry to hear your cat has gone missing. He does look similar but I would be surprised if he is the same one. His owner clearly knew him inside out and he has been with her for about 4 years. She lives on Ferme Park Road, at the top of the hill near the junction with Ridge Road and backing on to Nelson Road. I've just spent some time comparing the photographs and while the markings do look similar I think the face is different. This one had quite a thick tail, is very light and slender with a super soft coat. He looks and acts very young, has no scars or marks on his ears or anything. Hope that helps.
