Any recommendations of a Charity who would be interested in taking furniture: cupboards, tables etc rather than arrange for someone to take it all to the dump ?

Try The British Heart Foundation. They have a furniture showroom/store on the Holloway Road, and one in Finchley

Or Barnet Furniture Centre - they resell but also do free household goods for those in need?

Agree with the above. When I had to clear a flat, BHF were the only charity I could find who’d collect furniture free and were less prescriptive about what they’d take than some others (though obviously still requiring fire safety for upholstery, etc). You can Gift Aid anything you donate, too, which helps them when they sell items in their shops.
