Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Piazza design for Junction of Green Lanes and St Ann's, please comment on a resident proposal to make it a reality! Could this be considered to be adopted by the Green Lanes Strategy Group?

The square / piazza would work as a pedestrian friendly gateway between the two wards of Harringay and St Ann's. Bus routes would continue as normal and traffic direction would be reversed on Harringay Rd, also making catching a bus safer, crossing St Ann's for the 341.

For the Winter Fair everyone will remember how exciting it was to see the band and pyrotechnics open the Festival, Doctor bike has used the corner of the Salisbury for promoting cycling, it is a a landmark that many people recognise locally or otherwise.

For nursery and school children and parents it would make pedestrian access to green Lanes/nearby children's centre and school travel safer, it would improve the shop frontage for immediate St Ann's shops and reconnect St Ann's with Harringay, where local events can be promoted.

Comments welcome.

Yep Hornsey And Harringay station are poor gateways to the area, Brentford has a lovely Lift, which would be great at Hornsey. The railway track cut to be used as bollards are brutal on Hampton Rd Railway approach.

Palmers Green BR it aint, it doesn't reflect its significance with all the depot expansion, which has been the only reason for improvement to the East side amenity of the station. It isn't sympathetic to the Mosques religious setting, or allow for parking.

One day...
One person can start a discussion, but you need support from other residents,
a highly public & robust process when you put it up for appraisal on HoL.

To relocate some flower boxes to the Ladder from Green Lanes,
it was discussed with the Traders, the LCSP, the GLSG, councillors,
residents, contractors and officials which illustrates that nothing is
straight forward, so plenty of layers to consult and hopefully receive
cooperation.

If it was a committee true we'd have plenty more ideas,
I've witnessed some great achievements by committees.

This particular idea was deemed good enough to be
adapted from the fringe, a simple what if scenario,
and you can't expect everyone to agree.
I noticed two posts have been deleted, one made the point about
one person having sway, over the views of other residents.

After reflecting I was going to agree, Urban Design has a role to play
interrogating problems, and gathering information to present to residents;
to be informed and involved in the design process.

Design work shops are an effective part of providing a framework for solutions,
and provoking thought about how local spaces are used.

Several years ago, Matthew, there was some interest among councillors on this. Including suggesting ideas such as design charettes. As I recall, Haringey's Development Management Forums were one practical response to provide a more public way of consulting on contentious applications.

I was interested to see that Andrés Duany whose work introduced me to the charette as a planning tool, recently seems to have changed his mind.
