Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Just wondered if anyone else regularly smells gas on wightman rd. I've reported it a couple of times and although British gas come and investigate, the matter is never fully resolved. One British gas worker said that the gas pipe running the length of wightman was so old that it should all be replaced. I used to notice the smell at the top of Seymour but more recently at the top of Hewitt. My family think I'm going mad as I'm the only one who can smell it but I have met at least one other person who has noticed it.

Has anyone else out there noticed it and should I keep reporting it?

I always notice it at the top of Seymour and Hewitt! I've never reported it but I think it probably should be reported so that they actually do something about it. Next time I smell it, I will get on the phone.
I will too. Maybe if a few of us mention it again they will actually try to sort it!

I'm sure the gas pipe on Wightman was replaced quite recently - at least at the North end. Yellow plastic pipes ?

I was under the impression that they are replacing sections and doing a patch up job but I am only interpreting what I was told in a very brief chat about a year ago so could be completely wrong.

It's National Grid who are responsible for the distribution network, not your gas supplier. They have a  number to report emergencies - 0800 111 999.

Normally any report of smell of gas is treated very seriously.

Yes I did actually call the 0800 number and they have always sent someone out. Twice they have dug up the road and confirmed a gas escape when I've followed up with them, but the smell always returns a few days later.

Thats funny... My husband and I also notice it on the top of Hewitt.  I havent called though...will do next time we notice

Hi,

You are not going mad I smelt it at least a couple of times on Wightman Road between Seymour Road and Hewitt Road (where i live) and once I saw the National Grid van parked there so I thought they were doing something about it. I hope it is nothing serious. I will call National Grid next time i smell it.

Smelt it earlier in the year and reported it. They came and I thought it was fixed as I haven't smelt it recently. Would be a bit worried if I lived at that end of the road.
