Further update on campaign for pedestrian crossing at Alroy/Endymion Road

A couple of residents have been asking about the campaign for a crossing at Alroy/Endymion Roads.  Just by way of an update below is a section of a letter I was copied into from the group manager in the highways department at Haringey Council.

Having chased again this month, I am being told the same thing but a little progress has been made in that the council have agreed to carry out some traffic and pedestrian surveys in the new year.

We will continue to press the council to address this very dangerous crossing.

"I sympathise with your concerns and can assure you that the Council regards road safety, particularly pedestrian safety as a high priority and actively promotes road safety measures across the borough to reduce vehicle speeds, the number of road traffic accidents and to enhance the environment for all road users. Funding for schemes has reduced in recent years and it is likely that it will reduce further in the years ahead. We therefore must prioritise locations to make the most effective use of the budgets available. 

Our current Local Implementation Plan (LIP) sets out our priorities through a three year Delivery Plan. Our Neighbourhoods programmes within our LIP is aimed at looking holistically at areas to develop a package of measures to address various identified traffic and transport issues. Our currently Delivery Plan is between 2011-2014 and funding was provided through this programme in 2011/12 to delivery safety improvements along Wightman Road and Alroy Road. This extended to the junction of Alroy Road and Endymion Road where the existing road markings were refreshed and new roundabout signing erected.

I acknowledge the desire for pedestrian crossing facilities to be provided at the junction of Alroy Road and Endymion Road and the perception of pedestrian safety at this location. I have been in dialogue with Cllr Alexander regarding this issue and have agreed to conduct traffic and pedestrian surveys at this junction in the coming months to confirm the extent of conflict and possible safety implications. This information will then be used when considering priorities for our 2014-17 LIP Delivery Plan."
