Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Following on from the recent discussion regarding salvaging items at the Reuse and Recycling Centres, I think it would be good if reusable items could be posted on a Noticeboard somewhere on HOL when people have items to get rid of. As I don't own a car, getting things to the Centre is a pain for me and I have to rely on friends and neighbours goodwill to recycle stuff. In reality what happens is things I no longer need just get shoved in the loft, when I would prefer that someone else put them to good use instead.

You read my mind! Also, my experience of freecycle is that there are a group of people who will gather up anything and everything available for free; then sell on anything they can via Ebay/car boot sales and then dump the rest. It is the modern-day equivalent of what I used to know as "skip-ratting" ie. going through the contents of other people's skips.
Oh OK. I suppose I tend to judge other people as myself :-)

If someone takes the trouble to come round and collect, I don't mind if it is sold on, but agree dumping is a bit off. In Scotland skip-ratters are known as midden rakers :-)
There is also a freegle network, which is the British spin off from freecycle. I would suggest that you advertise the availabilty of this facility on HOL online over freegle and freecycle, as it might attract a few more people in.
There is no Haringey Freegle group, and I was a member of the North Islington one until they found out where I lived and booted me out. I've found that the people who come round for stuff on freecycle all seem genuine. Sometimes I just stick stuff out in front of the house and it goes within hours, especially furniture.
