Free skating as Ally Pally ice rink closes for summer-long refurbishment
Alexandra Palace ice rink will will close its doors for six months on Thursday, May 6, for "major refurbishment".
It is offering skaters one last chance to glide across the ice for free on May 5, before it reopens in autumn with a new international-sized rink.

THERE is thought to be several metres of permafrost under the ice-rink. Which if melted ... we don't know what damage that would do. The money to be spent on this is the minimum needed. Given the state of the rest of the building, the problem must be severe indeed for the council to reach for its cheque book. And given that the Trust Board normally prefers to spend such sums on consultants and lawyers, this spending on repairs is to be welcomed.
