Hi Sara, I just called you to let you know about my friend who takes in strays and rehomes kittens - I know she has space and could foster it either til owner gets in touch or could rehome it if nobody makes contact. Not sure if you put the phone down or the line went dead but if you want to explore this option please message me and I can pass on her number.

The RSPCA is extremely overstretched especially at this time of year so this would be a better option for the kitty rather than putting him/her in the shelter.

Thanks everyone for the advice and help. We have fostered the cat with a friend who lives locally, as we also thought that it is better for him to have human contact and to be safe than just put back out on the streets (or to go to the RSPCA).

By the way, Lauren, the reception went down on our call - I didn't hang up on you!

Thanks again

Sara

Hi Sara. Well done for looking after the kitten as it's not safe for it to be outside. Do you have a photo?

It's a good idea for Lauren's friend to foster it for now - she's very good with cat welfare. Plus it's important for a kitten to have a lot of personal contact at this age. Rescue places like the RSPCA tend to be inundated so Lauren's foster home option is better. The kitten will need to be neutered and microchipped.

Thanks Justine, yes she would have it checked out at the vets and get it neutered and care for it until either owner comes forward or find it a new loving home.

I know her because I got my cat from her in 2013, and she has helped find homes for lots of cats and kittens since then, including Dooguie, who belonged to another Harringay Online member. http://www.harringayonline.com/forum/topics/dooguie-is-looking-for-...

She doesn't have internet herself but is happy for me to pass on her details.

Completely agree - it will be much harder to socialise a kitten that's been sent to a 'pound' at this age and this will make him difficult to home. Great that he's getting some human contact/cuddles.

I really hope the kitten hasn't been taken to the RSPCA already :( Their priority is welfare rather than rehoming and they do put down cats when homes can't be found or if they have too many in their shelters.

I have passed on Sara's number to the fostering lady so hopefully she will be able to make contact as I'm at work today.
