Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This evening a lovely tabby starting yowling in our front garden. We fed him/her (don't know gender) some milk and soft food. The puss is now inside, not too skittish and lets us pat them but is staying near the front door.

Please see attached photos.

Please contact me asap if this lovely cat is yours!

Well done for helping the cat. It's not safe for a cat to be out the front due to the danger of the road.

If you can, take some more photos to show clearly the markings on the cat's whole face as the photos are a little bit too dark to see clearly. You will see in the Pets section that there are a few lost tabby cats locally.

If you have a secure cat carrier (or can borrow one from a neighbour), I recommend that you take the cat to the vet - any vets will scan the cat for free to see if the cat is microchipped and then any owner can be contacted. (The vet will also be able to indicate whether the cat is male or female, approximate age and if the cat needs neutering).
I'll flag the cat up to Stokey Cats and Dogs as they are good at helping with lost and found pets and there are useful tips on their website .
You can also list a lost or found pet on Animal Search and it's free to do that.

If the cat is not microchipped, if anyone claims the cat, make sure they have proof of ownership first.

(For any cat owners out there, Animal Rescue charities advise that it is vital that pets are microchipped and neutered. Cats enjoy cat flap access to a back garden, but it's best to lock the catflap at night so that cats are safe inside at night as it reduces the risk of them getting lost or injured. Remember not to let them out the front door by mistake).

Thanks Maitripushpa for the photos and your other message.

How did you get on at the vets - was the cat microchipped? If not, did the vet confirm whether male or female and if the cat needs neutering.

Good morning, Justine.

Thanks for checking in on us. The cat was not microchipped nor neutred and it's a male. We've had him microchipped, neutered, wormed, flea treatment and also a lateral hernia repaired. He is about 2-3 years old and very healthy. At the moment, he is curled up in a chair near me, looking out into the garden.

While I have checked all the lost tabbies on the HoL website and signed up with Animal Alert and checked various connections (what an amazing website!), so far, there are no matches. We are hoping he (now named Vajra) will stay here with us (we love him and he seems to be settling in here quickly) but of course if his previous owner emerges, he must go with them.

Thank you again for all the help and connections you provide through HoL and the community. My husband and I are very grateful.

with appreciation and a Happy New Year

Maitripushpa

I think you and your husband are absolute stars! You've made my day.

It's so lovely to have people like you in the neighbourhood who will actually help a cat in need and get him vet treated, microchipped and most important, neutered, and provide him a safe home.

Also Vajra would have got injured by a car if you hadn't taken him in and also got him neutered. (Only last night an unneutered, unchipped male tabby & white cat was killed by a car in Grove Park Rd N15).

Every single day an unneutered cat is outside leads to - more homeless cats being born, more cat fights, more injuries by cars and it's all so preventable by neutering and keeping cats safe inside at night. (Our rescue cats enjoy cat flap access to the back garden in daytime, but I never let them out the front door and they are always safe inside at night).

Happy New Year!
