Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I have three floor joists nailed together to form one, however two of the joists are in two pieces between the span of a spine wall and a steel beam - does that sound right  ?

The three are loaded from above by three vertical posts supporting a steel ridge beam. Surely between the span they all need to be one piece? Or am I wrong?

The builder has a structural engineer. I just provided the planning permission plans drawn up by an architect. So I presume this was designed - It obviously has been built to the structural engineers design. You can splice connect a joist with nails can you? I thought you used a steel place with bolts.
