Is there a fire in the nearby area, where on Harringay road and the air is filled with a strong burning smell and the air is very dark with smoke. A police helicopter is also circling

Yes, it seems to be coming from the garage on Wightman, opposite the top of Effingham Road. The smoke is EXTREMELY unpleasant smelling so keep windows closed. Fire engines in attendance. And police. Lots of smoke.

I think it's on Green Lanes. We heard what sounded like an explosion and I've just closed all our windows because the smoke smells pretty toxic. We're in a nearby rd and yep helicopter is overhead.

Cars being diverted down Beresford Road as Wightman is impassable next to the smoke/fire. I must say I'm amazed at people standing watching the proceedings, given that the smoke smells so noxious.

Came online to check this out - I'm on Harringay Road too Carla.

Laura and anyone else closer, it would be great to hear when the fire is out.

I can confirm the garage on Wightman Road near the top of Effingham Road is on fire.  The firemen seemed to be spraying water at it as a token gesture about 20 mins ago, although reinforcements were arriving.

There goes our Diagnostic Centre. The wife was sending me down there for a diagnosis on Monday. Now what'll I do?

The end of Effingham Road is still cordoned off as there are some cylinders in the garage that might still go up. The fire is pretty much out now.  We've just taken some tea out to the firemen!
