Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Finsbury Park Stakeholder Group Meeting 8 October 2024 - non-attendance of Harringay and Stroud Green Councillors

The Finsbury Park Stakeholder Group is a Haringey Council committee which meets to consider matters concerning events in Finsbury Park and membership includes local councillors from the Haringey wards of Harringay and Stroud Green, Islington and Hackney and others.  As residents concerns can only be brought to the meeting by group members, attendance by our local councillors is important as in practice there are no other ways in which local residents concerns can be raised and recorded in the minutes.

At the 8 October meeting there were two councillors from Hackney representing Brownswood and Woodberry Down wards and one Islington councillor representing the Finsbury Park ward, but not a single councillor from Harringay or Stroud Green wards was present.  And, no apologies are recorded.

As can be seen from the meeting minutes the Hackney and Islington councillors raised a number of issues on behalf of their constituents for instance, the Hackney councillor Sarah Young raised the matter of Woodberry Down residents not receiving the Kranbrother residents letter which gives information on this event including contact details.  I had previously raised this matter in relation to Stroud Green ward residents with Stroud Green councillor Alexandra Worrell but because she wasn’t present this concern is not recorded.

Where were the Harringay and Stroud Green (Labour) councillors?  Didn’t they know about the meeting, couldn’t they be bothered attending, were they under orders not to attend?
