Finsbury Park Sports Clubs Edging towards Deal to run Sports in Park

Plans to allow an organisation of local sports groups to run sports facilities at Finsbury Park have come a step closer.

Haringey Council’s Cabinet this week agreed to progress proposals to lease the Finsbury Park track and gym and tennis courts to the Finsbury Park Sports Partnership.

The Partnership brings together four sports clubs who regularly use the facilities. They would manage and improve the running track, gym and tennis courts, as well as refurbish facilities and encourage more people to get involved in sport, subject to certain conditions being met.

Proposed improvements include a new tennis pavilion, tennis court floodlighting, pathway lighting, athletics track refurbishment and improvements to other facilities with £1.3million external funding.

In addition to improving facilities for tennis, athletics and American football the partnership also has plans for football, fitness training and rugby.

The council are considering granting an Agreement to Lease in the New Year following discussions with 'local stakeholders'.
