Empty Lot is a large geometric sculpture on show in the Turbine Hall of the Tate. Created using scaffolding, a grid of triangular wooden planters, it also includes soil collected from parks across London including Harringay, Hornsey, Peckham and Westminster. Harringay's contribution comes from Finsbury Park and Hornsey's from Priory Park.
Nothing will be planted in the soil, but it will be lit by lamps and watered throughout the six month display. Apparently, "The unpredictable nature of the work, which may grow and change from one week to the next, provokes questions about the city and nature, as well as wider ideas of chance, change, and hope"!

The Priory Park connection centres on the Fountain - a Grade II listed building - currently enjoying a revival of interest - an unexpected beneficiary of the cuts to Haringey's Parks Service. One of the triangular boxes contains soil from the now empty fountain.
The installation in the Turbine Hall is big, it's very well ordered, it will be there for 6 months, and as Hugh says, apparently provocative.
And speaking of listed buildings - have you signed our petition for Hornsey Town Hall
Here is another fountain currently unloved & not working in the grounds of St Pauls (far right - can't find another image of it but you can click on it for closeup. Image by 'Zoe');
Maybe it also needs a new home.
Regarding 'Empty Lot' the creator of it did say he didn't mind if visitors dropped in the odd seed or two as they went around the exhibit.
