Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Finsbury Park Learning Disablity and Disability cycling club needs your support!!

You've probably seen the cycling sessions at the running track on Finsbury Park which are run by Pedal Power and wondered about all of the fantastic bikes and community.

Pedal Power is a learning disability focussed cycling club where people with physical disabilities are also welcome, they provide an incredible range of adapted bikes, tricycles, side by sides and even bikes you can park a wheelchair on. These bikes mean people with some of the most complex support needs can exercise regularly and experience a strong sense of community.

Jo Roach set up Pedal Power 20 years ago for her Daughter Suzie to have a place to exercise and Jo has worked day and night to keep the club funded, growing and always adapting to peoples needs.

I've been a member for about 4 years and I use their amazing recumbent tricycles which is one of the only accessible forms of exercise to me as a wheelchair user. Pedal Power has helped me stay fit, and stopped my disabilities from getting worse, It's also been a fantastic community for to meet people and socialise.

Pedal Power needs your support, please. They have a crowd funder for two side-by-side tandem bikes for the cycling sessions. These bikes allow people with complex support needs to exercise and learn to cycle with the brilliant instructors from pedal power. The bikes are made in holland and allow a instructor or family member to sit alongside the cyclist and help steer, or add power to the bike.

Unfortunately, there is only around a week left of the crowdfunder and they've only hit 15% of their target of £14,000

It's a brilliant club doing vital work with very limited support from the council. With the Disability benefit cuts looming, now is a more important time than ever for disabled people to have access to exercise and a strong sense of community.

Please show your support and donate at the below link, it will make the most enormous difference!:

Here is a recent article about their work in the Islington Tribune: https://www.islingtontribune.co.uk/article/its-on-a-roll-but-cycle-...

Another fantastic session today at the cycling track with Pedal Power!

A young man with high support needs and two-to-one constant care, was taught to cycle on a two-wheel bicycle for the first time today with the help of a trainer running the track with them, holding the bike and then slowly letting them go until they were cycling independently.

They received a round of applause, a certificate of achievement and they have learnt a valuable new and independent skill.

It's such a valuable club and anything you can spare for it will go such a long way. Please donate at the above link.

Please also send the link to your friends, family and neighbours. If you have any links to journalists who might want to do a story, there is so much going on here that would make a brilliant story and the attention would help enormously.

Thank you everyone
