Hello.
Did you all get the what’s on Finsbury Park booklet throigh
the door at the weekend ?
I am confused ,
on the back page there was a diary of events for the coming year
It stated above that agreed by residents (I have no memory of being asked ) it is allowed to have up to 5 large festival events with up to 30K attending a year
then goes on to tel us of several events of which at least 6/7 seem to be full on festivals going on this year ?
I am not sure and wondered if anyone else has noticed the same ?
This bothers me for many reasons as Finsbury Park is at the end ofour Road and not wanting
to be a total fun sponge massive events Like Wireless In my opinion really should be in a field in the middle of nowhere , the noise being the least of the problems , not being able to get out of
our Road or park and traffic, and having young kids, hearing the artists swearing over the mike all over the Haringay skies isn’t my favourite bit .
It Seems the boundaries are being stretched more and more every year .
Are they going too far now ?
What are other people’s thoughts on the amount it’s beomg used ?
Thanks

But some of us (especially with small children, dogs or mobility problems) don't have that alternative. For me I would have to get a taxi elsewhere and it rather takes the spontaneous "lets pop out for a walk in the park" possibility away from me. I would have to plan a day trip even if it is only 1.5 miles away.
I suppose a lot of people consider me to be a killjoy or a NIMBY and maybe I am. Consider this:-
30+ years ago we went to a festival in Roundwood Park in Willesden. As I remember it we walked down the side roads, past the residential properties. It was also pre CPZ days so the streets were packed with cars etc. All I saw was a barrier, like a fence, funnelling us towards the entrance to the park. It didn't cross my mind at all that behind those front gardens, walls, windows and doors, people lived there. They too had the noise, the disruption, the mess, crowds and closed park area, it wasn't a comfortable place to live while all this was going on. We visited a local pub and there was no furniture inside. Apparently there wasn't any room for it once the event closed for the night and the locals were effectively excluded from their community hub.
Not surprisingly the residents rebelled against it all to the council and that particular event was to be no more. Quite frankly it had grown too big and swamped the area. I applaud those NIMBYs in claiming back their right to a peaceful existence in the own homes and surrounding area.
PS. My point here is that at the time I didn't give a sh*t about anybody living nearby, I didn't even acknowledge that there would be other people there who had and wanted nothing to do with it or how it would impact them and their lives.
