Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Sadly, prolific Wood Green historian Albert Pinching died on 31st of July 2021.

Albert was born in Islington. After a career in technical management, he retired in 1999.

He may have been best known locally for his work researching and publishing the history of Wood Green.

As I look along my bookshelf, I see Wood Green past and Haringey's Hidden Steam Revealed. Both are excellent books if you're interested in our area's history. Both are published by and available from the Hornsey Historical Society - and I'm sure from other outlets online.

Thank you Albert.

(The Islington Tribune published a full obituary to Albert here).

I'm very sorry to hear this.  Albert was very helpful to me when I was writing a short article on Wood Green which, with his help, was duly published in the Hornsey Historical Society Journal.  He was, of course, a leading light of the HHS.  A generous and kindhearted man, with an infectious love of history.

Albert's book mapping the culverted rivers and streams criss-crossing the borough, is apparently an essential reference book for Haringey planners
