Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I have also had a number of messages from people asking if my cleaner does one-off cleans.  She does not.

HOWEVER, I can highly recommend a fabulous one-off cleaner who I used when I moved house last year who also did a fantastic post-build clean for me after we renovated.

Her name is PAULA.  She is £10 per hour.  She does one-off/spring cleans and she also has a Saturday morning free for a regular clean.

Please let me know if you would like her number.

Sorry Osbawn.  I didn't reply the correct way.  I don't use HOL often.

To answer your question, I had no idea!

Since this post mrsfinch responded and has filled me in with more information.  I am quite new to the UK and really didnt know much about dealing with cleaners etc let alone worry about their own tax affairs.

I really only offered a recommendation in good faith (like all other HOL people do in this section of the site) as I got bombarded by HOL people wanting details of my regular cleaner (who I have since checked and is aware of her tax obligaions, for your information) I thought I would offer the name of another fantastic worker.

Can I presume you are a tax inspector?

OR Do you question everyone who recommends people in this section about their tax situation?

To be honest - I have no idea.

I guess she works like most cleaners in the UK - they are paid the rate by cash or cheque.

When I have used her, I have just paid by cheque.

Why is the tax an issue?

I can contact her tomorrow Re: tax situation but as mentioned, she is a one-off cleaning person so I think her set rate is £10 whether or not she pays tax on that is not my concern.  I just worry about what I need to pay her.

Sorry I cannot be more helpful with my answer

I was advised by a tax inspector that you should always check with self employed cleaners that they know they are responsible for their own tax. then if they decide not to pay it, its down to them, and you will not be seen to have colluded with them about the avoidance.

Thanks - I didn't know this.

I am new to the country and had no idea about this.

Osbawn you're joking i'm sure. but if not lets just put it into perspective
