Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I've found these wonderful A4 size posters from 1927 and 1928, advertising greyhound racing at the newly opened Harringay Stadium.

The wonderful pictures show toffs and flappers enjoying the racing. Although the sport has always been associated with a working class participation, the middle and upper classes attended as spectators and betters at the leading courses, especially in London. They also played a key role in terms of share ownership, organisation, office holding, dog ownership, and training.

Modern greyhound racing only started in the UK in 1926. So these two posters come from the very earliest days. At that time wealthier patrons would have been in regular attendance, if perhaps a minority.

These posters capture the glamorous side of those early days.

They're on offer to HoL members as high quality framed prints (A4 image, with mount and serviceable black wooden 30 x 40 cm frame) - £27.50 per image or £49.50 for the pair. Click here to place your order.
