Neat. Such a hard thing to do, to present that level of information clearly.

Having whizzy internet sites like the NYT one make it easier. But don't suppose you've ever seen the amazing graphic of Napoleon's march on Moscow in 1812? It uses a single image to show the size of the army, the geographical location and the temperature and time. Generally credited as the best statistical graphic of all time, well that's what this website says and who am I to disagree. More here.
