The other day I noticed a fabric named 'Harringay' being sold on ebay. Intrigued, I wrote to the archive which holds the manufacturer's records to ask if they could tell me how it came by its name. They replied today with the following:
‘Harringay’ was produced in 1973 for the ‘Document Range’.
It was designed by Jean Kelsey from Edwardian tiles that were in a property in Harringay.
Intriguing! So can we track those tiles down?

Well, there was probably more bleed, as you get with Crouch End these days (I've see Cranley Gardens N10 referred to as Crouch End a few times recently), but the essential Harringay was pretty much the same as it is today - as shown on our map.)
It could be worth a trip up to http://www.stoneagearchitectural.com/ near Enfield as they have hundreds of fireplaces and tiled inserts. They have some amazing stuff there.
Middlesex University has (or had) a collection of stuff like this at Cat Hill. The curator used to be Lesley Hoskins of Mount View Road (partner of Richard Mosse, daughter Liberty). I've no idea if they still live there or if the collection still exists. I always meant to visit...
