I think this isn’t far from the least worst result we could’ve got, stepping outside the North London bubble and conceding that other parts of the country are entitled to a different opinion. Let’s see if they can get it past the loonies in parliament...
... it's not just the cheese... it's also the whine...
You will know by now that Raab has resigned. The language used by May to describe the manner in which the agreement was reached it all.
Pro-brexit ministers will now resign in droves and she will be left holding the baby once more. I have a newfound respect for Mrs May - she has been completely selfless and super resilient in handling this absolute fiasco. It's a god awful balance to manage - the will of the people vs. what is imminently sensible, while a the same time dealing with continuing onslaught from left- and right-wing media and the widest assortment of clowns to ever grace the front and back benches - Boris, Davies, Corbyn..
My hypothesis: May knows that time is on her side and will use the narrow window of opportunity and the real prospect of a no-deal Brexit to coax support for the deal in the intervening period.
She knows very well that even among Eurosceptics there aren't that many hard Brexiters, and fewer still will engage in no deal brinksmanship.
So given the choices of May's deal vs: a) no-deal, b) renegotiation c) no Brexit d) 2nd vote or e) general election (in other words a labour cabinet) I should imagine very few front benchers would dare oppose this, and risk any of the above outcomes...
