The Ministry of Justice published the 'Engaging Communities in Justice' Green Paper, about connecting the criminal justice system to the communities it serves, on Wednesday 29 April.
The Green Paper follows on from last year's Crime & Communities Review which found that too often the public do not believe their voice is heard within the criminal justice system, that they do not believe offenders are adequately punished for the crimes they commit and that they know little about what happens to offenders in the criminal justice system.
The Green Paper therefore proposes to open up the criminal justice system to the public. The consultation on the Green Paper proposals will close on 31 July and the Green Paper can be found
here.
