Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Dear All,
Please be aware that there is an email, purporting to be sent from United Parcel Services (UPS), circulating that will release a virus should you open the attachment.
This was brought to our attention by one of our NHW coordinators who has received this email that had a subject line of : UPS: Your Tracking # 894979310326
We have spoken to UPS who are aware of this email and would like us to pass on the following advice.
UPS tracking numbers start with 1Z or a series of letters, never all numbers, so if you receive an email with a subject line showing a tracking number with all numbers then delete it immediately without opening.

For further information please contact UPS direct on 08457 877877.

Be careful out there
Thank you!
Urban Legends have a nice write up of this virus here: http://urbanlegends.about.com/b/2008/07/15/ups-virus-warning.htm
THERE IS an important caveat with this and indeed most virus warnings. The media routinely refer to "computer viruses".

It is misleading to assume that so-calls "computer" viruses apply to all "computers". Viruses are targetted at vulnerable computer Operating Systems. Not all operating systems are equally vulnerable.

Some are fundamentally well designed (generally UNIX-class operating systems, including Mac OS X) and are difficult or near-impossible to write viruses for. Others, like the widespread DOS-Windows and variants, have holes like a block of Swiss cheese.

I have no virus protection. Yet, I have been connected by cable broadband to the internet 24/7 for the past several years. Why haven't I been affected?

I have run Mac OS X since 2001. It's built on rock-solid, industrial strength UNIX.

It is likely that this warning applies only those who still run Microsoft's "Windows" operating system.
There is also a text going around. I got it, it reads:

"Text message - "URGENT! A large parcel is awaiting delivery, please call +23222270680 for delivery tomorrow. From International Parcel Deliveries"

The number is some premium rate offshore rip off. Seems quite common having Googled it.
