Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Meadow Orchard Project is launching an Eco-build Project in association with Cob in the Community, What is Architecture and Wood Works Wonders. 

Come and take part in this exciting community project to help build a straw-bale and cob eco-hut together from start to finish.  Gain new skills, get fit and have lots of fun in a beautiful and inspiring natural setting in North London.

Series of workshops to learn skills and techniques in natural building: 

Preparing the land

30th/31st July, 6th/7th Aug
Marking out the site. Foundations and drainage. Preparing rammed earth tyres. Making cob bricks using earth, straw, and sand.

Timber frame with Wood Works Wonders (Selby Trust)
13th / 14th Aug, 20th / 21st Aug Assembling a round timber-frame with reciprocal roof and sky-light using reclaimed timber.

Cob building with Cob in the Community
3rd/4th, 10th/11th  Constructing cob walls, permaculture and natural building, setting windows/door frames.

Building an earth oven

17th/18th

Sep Interior furniture

24th/25th, benches and shelving, sculpting with clay for decoration.

Family Fun day 25th Sep working with sculpture and mosaic.

Straw-bale building with Chug 

8th / 9th Oct
Using straw-bales to construct walls, installing windows/door frames and lime rendering of walls.

Roofing with Wood Works Wonders (Selby Trust)
1st / 2nd Oct, 15th / 16th Oct, 22nd / 23rd Oct
Fixing roofing material and weatherproofing. Shingle making (oak roof tiles) and roof laying.  Installing windows, doors and sky-light.

Exterior/Interior finishing off

Winter and Spring dates to be confirmed

Plus every Friday ongoing volunteer days to continue work on the building. 

If you are interested in taking part in the eco-build project or to find out more please get in touch by email or phone. Course days can be attended as one off days, whole weekend or multiple days. Please note course dates advertised are subject to flexibility to take account of weather.

Course costs are £35 a day including barbeque lunch
£180 for a package of 6 days of courses
£250 for a package of 10 days of courses
Additional discounts for multiple courses.
Limited free places in exchange for course assistant role.
Volunteer days every Friday for free.
