Does anyone know why Ducketts Common doesn't have an entrance on the corner of Frobisher Rd & Green Lanes?

The western boundary of Duckett's Common formed the boundary between the boroughs of Tottenham and Hornsey and its management was down to Tottenham Council.

Up till 1900 both what's now known as Duckett's Common along with the green areas to the east of green Lanes were known as Duckett's Green. In 1900 Tottenham Council got a £300 contribution from Hornsey Council and borrowed a further £800 to turn the Green into a public park and so it became Duckett's Common. The fencing was put up at that time.

I'm not aware of the reason that no entrance was put in at the corner of Frobisher and Green Lanes, but the same happened with Finsbury Park at the corner of Endymion and Green Lanes. Perhaps there was a municpal othodoxy which dictated where entrances should go. There was some local pressure about that in the early 20th century, but I'm not aware about any pressure to open the corner of Duckett's.

Thanks Hugh, Sounds like it's mainly an historical accident rather than a consciously planned thing then..

Just seems to me it would be better in terms of pedestrian access to have an entrance to the common on that corner and it would open up that end of the common, which at the moment only has one gate on Frobisher Road on the opposite corner.

It has the new "event gate" at the bottom of Lausanne Rd... so it's perfectly feasible to get a gate put in if someone special wills it.

I asked about this a few years back and was told by the "Friends of Ducketts Common" that it would create a muddy trail through the park.

In my mind, if a muddy trail would be created it must mean because people would love to use an entrance there, and there could be a nice path along the edge of this barely used and wide section of grass - also connecting to the other entrance you mentioned which is indeed a bit muddy.

Could be a nice spot to walk along and perhaps sit, away from the busier side of the park.

maybe needs a combined campaign for a new gate and improved pathways...

The 'event gate' at the other end of the park is a nice feature

yes it needs a campaign for a new gate and improved pathways...

I made a comment on Haringey's public realm consultation here - https://woodgreenplacesmap.commonplace.is/thanks?context=comment&am...
