Hi all, we're needing someone to look at a u-bend in our rainwater drain which goes dry and lets the smell from the soakaway into our conservatory. Anyone got any recommendations?

Hi - I found Dynorod really helpful when we had a recent sewer/drain problem. Worth talking to them I should think. Good luck.
Your best bet is to move the soakaway if possible to outside the conservatory. its possible the water leaking out of the u bend or that the water is evaporating. I would not have thought a soakway would produce such a foul smell being only rainwater. In the short turn you could neuralize it with a soda crystal solution or strong bleach.

PS if its leaking its not blockage and I don't think Dynorod would solve it - if you can get your hand down you should be able to feel any cracks when its dry. You can probably use a sealant to repair insitu or as i said re-route the rainwater pipe to a new location outside & construct a new soakaway.
Many thanks for the leads and suggestions. I think that the reason it smells is because for many years there was a kitchen sink draining into it. I disconnected the sink when we bought the house and it's been fine for 4 years but last summer the u-bend dried out a few times and when I looked last week it was dry even after all that rain. Hadn't thought of sealing it up myself so I'll stick my hand down and see if I can feel the problem. Maybe I should just join it back to the sink and plug it with fat. Only joking.
