Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I'm keen to help facilitate the donating of money to those local people who've been badly affected by the riots. I've already had several requests about how to do so including from the USA.

It would be easy enough for me to set up a page on justgiving.com, but HoL is not a trusted broker and my sense is that we need a civic pillar underpinning this.

In an effort to try and help make sure this happens as quickly as possible,  I've been on the phone this morning with the ever energetic Cllr Alan Stanton in whose area the Saturday troubles took place. He is now going contact David Lammy's office with a view to getting a donation line/website  set up.

I can't for a moment imagine that any HoL members would have any ideas for Alan.........

Thanks for trying to get this moving, Hugh.

You are right - needs to be properly organised and co-ordinated with what others are doing.

I would be keen that any money should help the families burnt out of their homes in Tottenham (above the carpet shop and anywhere else affected Saturday night) first of all.  Do I recall that the owner of Carpetright said he was planning to help those people in some way?

Thanks, Hugh. I've passed to this suggestion to staff in both David Lammy's office and that of Haringey's Chief Excutive, Kevin Crompton.

Just to say that the issue isn't whether or not HoL is a trusted broker. Plainly there are many many people who want to offer practical help of some kind including donating cash. A local council has the mechanisms already in place to deal with and be accountable for large - or even quite small - sums of money.
I would be very happy to donate to a fund administered by LB Haringey.
brilliant. annette

This message just in via HoLMail:

In the past, a special fund is set up by Mayor of Haringey and administered by the DoFinance. Usually time-limited for a short-period of 3-6 months.

A few minutes ago I spoke to Cllr Gina Adamou, the Mayor, who confirmed she'd already had a phone call about this and it's being put in place. (Gina was just leaving for an appointment and asked me to post this.)

Will be watching this thread with interest - definitely want to donate. Thanks for your hard work, Hugh.
great - thanks for doing this.
Hello! We are too down-east to be of physical help (and I have 3 littlies home from school, which I'll not bring into the area right now) but I want a place to donate around £100 (whatever I make at my workshop tonight basically) and to post some clothing annd bedding and such.

All the best and I hope your area heals soon!
That's good -hadn't seen this when I posted on this topic before. Anyway no doubt those who gather at the leisure centre tomorrow to deal with donations in kind can get updates and review the situation.
