Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Do you know a clinical psychologist or someone who works in psychology research who might be able to help me?
This is a bit of an odd request, so I’d understand if no one replies. However, I was wondering if anyone who works in psychology might be able to spare a bit of time to give me some career advice.
I’m eventually hoping to train as a clinical psychologist, but I feel like I’ve hit a brick wall. After spending the last nine months trying to gain experience and failing, I’m fast coming to the conclusion that I’m going about things the wrong way. At the moment, I feel like my only options are to continue doing what I’ve been doing without success (who was it who said that madness is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome…?), or to give up entirely. Maybe there are other options - things I could be doing differently - but I'm not doing a good job at thinking of them.
I wouldn't usually ask for help in this way, and apologies again that this is a bit of a strange request. But, if anyone did have half an hour to spare, I’d really appreciate the opportunity to talk things through before I make a decision about whether to persevere or not

I will see if I can locate someone - I am in contact with clinical psychologists but will need to ask them and come back to you.
In the meantime have you heard of open dialogue - a wonderful way of treating severe Mental illness, adopted in Finland some years ago and with far better outcomes than our system. A research project is about to get underway and their is an OD interest group at BEHMEHT that I attend. OD involves completely retraining staff and Psychologists and a group of staff in Haringey have been rained and will take part in the research.
If you are interested, there is also a conference coming up later this month in Central London - I have attended before and it is completely eye opening. I could post details here if you are interested.

It's funny you should mention Open Dialogue. I remember hearing it mentioned last year and, because I hadn't heard of it before, I looked it up. If you don't mind posting the details, I'd be really interested to learn more about it.
